021 - Phone and Action

[Phone] Okay so I've got a few things that people requested from the forge? I can bring them by houses or you can come pick them up whenever. Basically if you requested something, it's probably done. So... yeah.

This is usually the part where I'd be taking requests, and I can still do that, but I'm working on a project right now so there's gonna be kind of a delay before I can start working on stuff. But yeah! For all the new people I've been hearing around, I'm Hiccup, I have a forge, and I can make weapons, armor, and possibly random stuff. Just let me know and we can work something out. I just got a bunch of tools back from home so it'll make making some really good stuff a lot easier.

[Action, after school] [Hiccup is working at the forge, in the backyard of 339 Brady Lane. He's actually doing something he doesn't usually do given the requests he usually gets. He's working on some kind of mechanism to do... something. It's a little uncertain. But there's a couple of diagrams of car engines.]

(So at 3.50 pm Hiccup will see an unfamiliar lady who wears glasses and has black hair around 339 Brady Lane.)

Excuse me, would you happen to be Hiccup?

[Hiccup looks up from whatever he's doing (it involves some sort of mechanical assembly of an object no bigger than a large grapefruit) and waves.]

Yeah, that's me. You're Miss Pauling?

(She returns his wave.)

Yes. I hope that you don't mind me being slightly early? If you're busy, I could come back later.

No, it's fine.

[He puts what he's working on down on the work table and stands up. (At this point his prosthetic leg is apparent.)]

Come on over, I can show you what I have so far and you can tell me what you're thinking about.

(When she sees the prosthetic leg, she feels slightly nauseous. Did Hiccup lose his leg as a result of Mayfield's machinations? However, she quickly tries to pretend that she didn't notice anything, so that she doesn't make him feel awkward.)

Sure, that would be great. I'm not really a mercenary or anything like that, so I'm not too sure what to do.

[Hiccup grins.]

Well most people aren't, so that's fine. Have you used any kinds of weapons before?

[prpl_assistant]

No, not really. Most people in my world use guns, and me, well...I am just a secretary.

[worstvikingever]

Okay, well I don't usually do a whole lot with guns... [Hiccup looks at the racks of weapons he's already made and picks out a very basic short sword, well made, but light and easy to handle.] Try swinging this around, see how it feels.

[prpl_assistant]

(Have a short sword narrowly miss your head Hiccup. Miss Pauling fumbles with the sword and it slips out of her grasp when she makes that first swing.)

Oh my god, I am so sorry! Are you alright?

[He ducks out of the way just in time.]

I'm fine, it's okay! [He's kind of grinning a little.] Okay so not a sword then. [He thinks for a moment.] Have you ever played baseball?

Umm...a little, back when I was really little. I wasn't that good at it though, and I mainly caught the ball.

So not so good at swinging a bat?

[prpl_assistant]

Erm...no, unfortunately.

I'm really sorry that I'm making this so difficult for you Hiccup.

[worstvikingever]

No, it's okay. Mind me asking why you want a weapon if you don't have any experience with them?

[prpl_assistant]

I've...I've heard that things can get dangerous in Mayfield. People can get attacked and hurt, and I'd rather be prepared.

(She's still wondering whether that's how he got the prosthetic, but trust her to be too careful to ask about it.)

[Hiccup nods.]

Well... you're right. But if you don't know how to use a weapon then it's not going to be a whole lot of help.

[He looks around and finds a nice long dagger. It's not as long as the short sword was, but it looks a little easier to handle. He hands it over.] Try this. Don't think of it as a sword or a dagger or a weapon, just think of it as something to stab something with in case things get dicey. Trying to get fancy will only get you hurt.

[prpl_assistant]

(She tries a few stabs with it.)

Something like that? It doesn't seem very hard to use.

Yeah, that's fine. Daggers are pretty basic, but there can be a lot of technique to them if you keep working with it. But that'll help you out if something... happens.

[prpl_assistant]

Thanks very much for the dagger Hiccup. Is there anything you'd like in return for it?

[worstvikingever]

[He shrugs.]

Whatever you think is fair is fine. I don't usually ask for money or anything.

[prpl_assistant]

How about a meal? I'm not exactly a master chef, but I can cook you something that you've never tasted before.

That's fine. That'd be pretty cool, actually.

[prpl_assistant]

Alright then. Just let me know when is comfortable for you then. I won't be free until the day after tomorrow, so anytime after that is good.

Hey, it's no problem. Yeah, I make them all myself. I figure it's my way of helping out everyone in town, you know?

Wow. That's very responsible of you, Hiccup. When I was your age, I was more interested in reading my books than helping out in the house. How old are you exactly?
