019 - Phone and Action

[Phone:] So hi guys. Uh... I meant to mention this earlier, but then everyone got distracted with the whole Fourth of July and truth telling thing, so... anyway. The people who've been here know this already, but we've got a bunch of new people and I wanted to repeat my offer.

I'm a blacksmith, and I've got a forge. It's not that big, but I'm pretty handy with mechanical stuff and making things, so if you need anything, just let me know and I can probably make it for you.

Uh... and I've got a few things here that are finished but never got given out. If you requested something from me and haven't gotten it yet, it's done, just let me know and I'll get it to you.

[Action:] So like many others in town, Hiccup has received a package in the mail. He's a little wary about opening it, since the last time he got a package he lost his leg again (before getting it back, losing it again, and then getting it back again), but when he shakes it and feels it, he decides to open it and...

...it's the Dragon Manual. He blinks in surprise, then starts flipping through it. Yup. Just like he remembered.

So Hiccup can be found in one of three places today:

A. In the park, sitting on a bench and reading the Dragon Manual and making notes in a notebook.

B. In the front yard of 729 Anderson Lane reading the Dragon Manual and making notes in a notebook.

C. In the backyard of 339 Brady Lane at Quinn's forge, making a racket anyone on the street would be able to hear. All he's doing is getting car parts ready to be used as other stuff, but no one ever said forges were quiet places. If you want to pick something up, request something in person, or accidentally stumble upon a forge you never knew existed, now's the time.

[Dexter, findinng himself incredibly bored without his tools yet, decides to take a walk to the comic shop, he notices Hiccup and his Dragon manual on the way out. Curioser and curioser, he decides to enquire]

[Hiccup looks up from his reading/writing and waves a little.]

Hi Dexter. I'm just reading through this book I got from home. [He holds it up.] It's the Dragon Manual that they used to teach everyone about what kinds of dragons there were and what to watch out for. I'm... taking notes, actually. I think I'm gonna try editing it. I guess you could say our perspective has changed a lot, so it'll need to be fixed.

Well I mostly make weapons and armor, but I've made a lot of stuff like catapults and whatever back home. I'm pretty good at figuring stuff out, so if you let me know what you're looking for I'll probably be able to make it.

I mean, if that's okay and you aren't too busy. I don't think I'd be able to put it to good use anyways, so there's no rush.

No it's totally okay. I made a lot of swords back home, so those are actually pretty easy for me to make. I actually have a few extra that I keep around just in case someone needs one really quickly. If you want, you could try those out and if they don't feel right I'll make one more suited to you.

[ And adding to that racket, Souji is driving up a car. He's gotten better at this. This time his not!brother Aaron isn't around to make sure Souji doesn't drive off a cliff somewhere. He's pulling the vehicle up onto Hiccup's driveway, then hops out and walks around to the backyard. ]

[It's not Hiccup's house, but he's there in the backyard anyway. He pauses in his work and looks up at Souji and waves.]

[Thor knows what a forge sounds like. But it's not a sound he'd expected to find here. He's almost used to the sound of car horns now, and the alarm clock (once it repaired itself after that first time), and the telephone (not that he knows what it is any more than he did when he first got here). But after those, the familiar forge-sounds are almost jarring.

He follows them into the backyard (because what is private property?) and is surprised to find the toothpick here. What was his name? Sneeze, or something like that?]

I wouldn't have thought you one for smith-work, boy!

[Hiccup nearly drops what he's doing. He turns around, totally unprepared to have Thor at his little forge.]

Oh. Uh. Hi. I mean, I guess not, but back home it was kind of the only place they figured they could stick me where I'd do the least amount of damage. That and I was pretty good at it.

(At some point Hiccup will get a note in his mailbox, letters pasted together from random magazines and papers kidnapper style, as well as a chunk of cash.

I would like to commission a sturdy butterfly knife (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balisong_(knife)) with a blade length of 4 inches. Enclosed is half of the payment, and is yours to keep regardless of whether you are interested in taking the job. Please give me an estimate of when I can expect to pick it up.)

[Well this is confusing. How is he supposed to get back to this person? He doesn't even know what a butterfly knife is. And he's never asked for money as payment before, this is... just confusing. Maybe if he puts a note back in the mailbox?]

Hi. I got your note, and I really don't need the money, but thanks anyway. Usually I ask for favors at a later date, but whatever. Anyway, I'm not familiar with butterfly knives, so if you could let me know the specifics involved, I'll definitely give it a shot. Thanks.

[Hiccup jumps and flails slightly. He looks around and relaxes. He's talked to Jade a lot before... but it was a different Jade. Or was it?]

Uh, yeah. They are. They're the dragons from where I come from back home.
