001 - Arrival at 729 Anderson Lane

[Hiccup was fast asleep in a very comfortable looking bed. The sunlight streamed in through the window, and with a twitch, he yawned and opened his eyes.

And yelled.

Very loudly.]

WHAT? WHAT?

[Very quickly, he stumbled out of bed and promptly tripped and rolled on the floor. Looking down at his legs, he screamed.

He had two of them.

He was supposed to be missing one.

Finding his footing, he scrambled to his feet and managed to find his way out the door of the bedroom, down the stairs, and out the front door, screaming all the way at his surroundings.

Upon arrival outside, he spins around, taking in the scenery in disbelief. Finally, he seems to get some semblance of mind about him and starts yelling for the people he knows.]

DAD? DAD?

ASTRID?

TOOTHLESS?

[Yes, Anderson Lane, there is a teenage boy in pajamas out in your street yelling. What are you going to do?]

[Toothless ducks his head, only slightly to not throw Hiccup off or knock him over again when he didn't mean to and lets out a small whine.

Two months and he still has no idea.]

Oh gods.

Toothless, I can't even... Nothing makes sense. It doesn't look right, it doesn't smell right, it doesn't feel right...

...and my leg came back.

None of this is possible.

[Oh yeah, Toothless has already been through that. He offers a comforting purr before nudging Hiccup again. I'm here. None of it may be right, but... at least Hiccup isn't alone.

And oh-so-subtly, Toothless's tail sways back and forth... now missing both tailfins.]

[Hiccup takes a deep breath and smiles, just a little tiny bit.]

Thanks, Toothless.

[He finally breaks the hug, but keeps a hand on Toothless' head. The dragon is the only thing about this place that makes sense so far, and just knowing he's there helps.

But... the tail catches his eye.]

Toothless? Where's... what happened to your tail?

[He sighs as best a dragon can and looks... well, at his tail. And then he looks from one house to another to down the street.

They took it, obviously.]

[Hiccup follows his gaze, not really sure what he's trying to say.]

Wait... hang on. Houses... not the buildings. The people took it?

[and now he's getting angry.]

Toothless, did they hurt you?

[Toothless snorts. Don't make him sound like such a victim, you're hurting his pride. He shakes his wings off and sits down, obviously not very happy with this whole victimized thing.

Really, it's more like he let them hurt him... really.]

Okay, so they didn't hurt you...

So it's just gone?

[... There are times Toothless hates not speaking human.

This is one of them. The frustration is evident in his eyes, which narrow, and eventually close. With another shake of his wings, he lays down on the... pavement, lol. He's probably been hit by more than one car this way.]

[Hiccup is so confused. He kneels down beside Toothless, completely unaware of any threat that might exist (lol what's a car).]

I'm sorry, buddy. I don't get it.

[Pfft. Toothless nuzzles him again, albeit a little more grumpily. He's just fine and he missed you and--

And he really thought you had another dragon for a little while ;_;]

[Hiccup scratches Toothless in return.]

I'll get used to it eventually, Toothless. I'll figure it out. Eventually.

OMG scritches he's gotten plenty of them in Mayfield but no one else knows exactly where to scritch. He relaxes visibly from the scritches.

Also he's fairy positive that Hiccup will figure things out. Eventually.]

[Scritches make EVERYTHING better. Hiccup relaxes too, because this makes sense. Maybe if he can just... ignore the scenery, the hard pavement, everything else, and just remember that no matter what else happens, he's here with his best friend... it'll be okay.

[Even though it probably won't be long before you realize... that it won't. Toothless puts his head in Hiccup's lap, lovingly. He's got you, tiny buddy]
