014 - Action and Phone

[Klaus is droned. That much was obvious as soon as it happened. Hiccup has no idea if it's temporary or permanent, but either way it's depressing.

And then Hiccup ran into Astrid. The way she said hello immediately tipped him off to the fact that she was gone too. Astrid never talked like that.

So there it was. The man he looked up to as a father and the girl... well. They were gone. Talking to empty shells of them made him want to go somewhere quiet and smash his head against a wall. He didn't, of course. That would be stupid.

So instead he spends most of his time at the forge or just away from the house.

Hiccup, for the purposes of this post, can be found at the forge (339 Brady Lane), or in the park, just quietly sitting on a bench and watching the birds.]

Anyone who asked me to make them stuff, I've got most of it done now. Just give me an address and I can drop it off, or you can come by the forge and pick it up.

Anyone else who might want something just let me know.

[Hiccup names a couple of landmarks, still rather confused.]

Five or ten minutes later, Hiccup will hear a knock on the door.]

[Hiccup answers the door. Oh hi Loki.]

...so? Why did you come over?

I'm here to whisk you away from all your troubles. At least for a little while.

The way I see it, there's nothing you can do about the dronings but wait.

So, what do you do for fun in this town?

[Hiccup blinks. This is. Entirely unexpected.]

Oh. Well. Mostly I work at the forge, but that's not what you mean. Um. Well there's the movie theater and the bowling alley. I've never been to either, but apparently they're supposed to be fun.

[He has no idea what either of those are.]

Okay well movies are... uh... you go and watch people act out a story. Basically. Bowling is apparently a kind of game where you roll balls at pins and try to knock them over.

Let's play bowling. I've a better chance of understanding that than any story they're telling here.

[Hiccup shrugs.]

Sure. Hopefully it won't be too hard to figure out.

[He grabs money or something and closes the front door behind him.]

[Loki follows, whistling cheerfully. He figured out how to do it again a few days ago, and is very pleased with this.]

Cool. [Hiccup grins as they walk. It's not a really long walk, but the repetitive streets make it seem longer than it is.]

I can never get over how all the houses look exactly the same.

How do they do it? You couldn't find that many identical trees if you combed a whole forest.

And don't get me started on the inside of the houses. I don't know what half this town is made from.

It's... there's a lot of technology developed over the past... I think we're from about a thousand years before the time this town is supposed to be from. So yeah. A lot of stuff has happened in that time. Like the ability to make houses that look absolutely exactly the same. And plastic. That's one of the big things they make a lot of stuff out of. I don't even know how it's made or where it comes from, but they use it in tons of stuff.

It's interesting. And I spent the first month or so of my time here taking apart every appliance I could get my hands on just to see how they worked, so. Yeah. The way stuff works is interesting.
