014 - Action and Phone

[Klaus is droned. That much was obvious as soon as it happened. Hiccup has no idea if it's temporary or permanent, but either way it's depressing.

And then Hiccup ran into Astrid. The way she said hello immediately tipped him off to the fact that she was gone too. Astrid never talked like that.

So there it was. The man he looked up to as a father and the girl... well. They were gone. Talking to empty shells of them made him want to go somewhere quiet and smash his head against a wall. He didn't, of course. That would be stupid.

So instead he spends most of his time at the forge or just away from the house.

Hiccup, for the purposes of this post, can be found at the forge (339 Brady Lane), or in the park, just quietly sitting on a bench and watching the birds.]

Anyone who asked me to make them stuff, I've got most of it done now. Just give me an address and I can drop it off, or you can come by the forge and pick it up.

Okay well movies are... uh... you go and watch people act out a story. Basically. Bowling is apparently a kind of game where you roll balls at pins and try to knock them over.

[Loki follows, whistling cheerfully. He figured out how to do it again a few days ago, and is very pleased with this.]

Cool. [Hiccup grins as they walk. It's not a really long walk, but the repetitive streets make it seem longer than it is.]

I can never get over how all the houses look exactly the same.

How do they do it? You couldn't find that many identical trees if you combed a whole forest.

And don't get me started on the inside of the houses. I don't know what half this town is made from.

It's... there's a lot of technology developed over the past... I think we're from about a thousand years before the time this town is supposed to be from. So yeah. A lot of stuff has happened in that time. Like the ability to make houses that look absolutely exactly the same. And plastic. That's one of the big things they make a lot of stuff out of. I don't even know how it's made or where it comes from, but they use it in tons of stuff.

It's interesting. And I spent the first month or so of my time here taking apart every appliance I could get my hands on just to see how they worked, so. Yeah. The way stuff works is interesting.

No, I don't have a job per say. One of the other people here has a small forge though, and I'm kind of the only person who stepped up to use it, so I kind of work making stuff for people there.

Weapons and armor, mostly. It's what people ask for. But if they asked for other stuff, I'd try to make it for them.

[He's about to ask more about these weapons, but they're walking past a diner, and there are girls skating around on little shoes with wheels on them. Loki stares.]

What kind of shoe is that?

[Hiccup looks over at whatever Loki's talking about, then nods in understanding.]

Oh. Those are rollerskates. They're pretty cool. I kind of wish I could try them, but I'd have to make one to fit around my fake leg. Might be interesting to try though.

[Rollerskates. Shoes with little wheels on them. Loki's eyes look distant for a moment.]

I had a pair of shoes, once. When I was wearing them, I could fly. Loki sky-walker, they called me.

I'd nearly forgotten.

He's. Not really sure how to respond now.]

Well... probably no flying around here for a while, but rollerskates would definitely get you going around town faster.

[Hiccup ducks his head to hide his smile at the thought of Loki at a roller rink with his kids. Man, that would be some night.
