014 - Action and Phone

[Klaus is droned. That much was obvious as soon as it happened. Hiccup has no idea if it's temporary or permanent, but either way it's depressing.

And then Hiccup ran into Astrid. The way she said hello immediately tipped him off to the fact that she was gone too. Astrid never talked like that.

So there it was. The man he looked up to as a father and the girl... well. They were gone. Talking to empty shells of them made him want to go somewhere quiet and smash his head against a wall. He didn't, of course. That would be stupid.

So instead he spends most of his time at the forge or just away from the house.

Hiccup, for the purposes of this post, can be found at the forge (339 Brady Lane), or in the park, just quietly sitting on a bench and watching the birds.]

Anyone who asked me to make them stuff, I've got most of it done now. Just give me an address and I can drop it off, or you can come by the forge and pick it up.

Anyone else who might want something just let me know.

[Of course he isn't going to go pick it up if he doesn't have to. So lazy.]

[Aaaand he'll be there later that day, ringing the doorbell.]

[And chances are he dozed off during that time, which would be why there's a few minutes of lag rate between the doorbell being rung and a disorderly looking Caesar opening the door.]

Yeah? [Oh. Oh right. Sword.] Hey Hiccup.

Hi Caesar. Here's your sword.

[He unwraps a fine sword made to Caesar's specifications from a couple of blankets and hands it over carefully.]

Uh. Thanks.

[Oh god, someone's handing him a weapon. Even with all the time he'd spent around people with all sorts of dangerous, pointy objects, he's never actually...

Whatever. It's not like he's going to do anything with it. He can manage to hold it safely enough. If. A little awkwardly. Yeah. Pretty obvious he's never held one of these before.]

Not bad. Not bad at all. [That's a compliment, really!] And good timing, too.

[Hiccup's been around enough people with swords and what not to be able to tell when someone knows what they're doing and when they don't. He glances at Caesar for a moment before tentatively saying]

You don't... actually know how to use a sword, do you.

...it's that obvious? [Well then.] I know not to hold onto the sharp end.

You could probably find someone in town to teach you. I'd offer to, but I'm not really that great either.

Nah. I'm not much of a fighter. This is actually for someone else, who probably doesn't deserve it, but it's not like I can do anything with it.

Oh. [He gestures vaguely in the direction of the car in the driveway, as best as he can while holding a sword.] And if you need metal for anything else, no one here uses that thing, so I guess that makes it fair game.
