He's making a few adjustments to his leg, you see. You know. The prosthetic one that has replaced his amputated left foot. That one.

Go ahead, talk to him. It's not like he's gotten enough comments on his leg yet. No, really.]

Oh. This is something that happened back home. When I got here I had both legs but then the town sent me a weird empty box and when I opened it I lost the leg again. So. Yeah, it's not because of anything that happened here. Except the box.

Ohhh... ♪

Well, I feel dumb. I wouldn't have said anything if you told me about it, though... jeez, for a second I thought you took your experimenting too far, like in a horror comic. ♪

[He smiles, if a bit uncomfortably.]

No. No way I'd do that on purpose.

[He's had enough amputation for one life time thank you very much good gods]

[He takes a deep breath. Calm down, boy. It's all good.]

[she is definitely oblivious to the correlation between Hiccup and amputations. Well, apart from the obvious, anyway. She sighs]

[Well it's not like he's told anyone. And it's not like Klaus has told anyone. So Hiccup's issues are safe! 8D]

[she's about to ask him if he has an opinion on the whole prom queen thing, but suddenly a lightbulb goes off in her head. So she responds with a hint of distraction]

- Ah, first of all, do you happen to have a prom date? ♪

[AW YEAH HE JUST HAD THIS CONVERSATION ON THE PHONE HE IS SET and he is actually kind of proud of himself for being able to say yes]

Yeah, actually. Why?

Aw, shoot, I knew it was a longshot. ♪

Well, to be honest, my friend Ruri seemed kind of out of luck as far as dates go, but she said she was looking for someone smart and polite, and I suddenly thought that you might count.

Oh... Ruri?

[He suddenly feels a little guilty. Ruri's his friend too. But... Astrid is kind of sort of maybe his girlfriend possibly? And she'd definitely punch him if he asked someone else but why would he want to do that when she was here anyway? But still. Knowing Ruri's left without a date bothers him.]

[After that, she collects herself.]

... But she won't go if someone doesn't convince her. I tried, and it was... kind of hard.

I guess I could talk to her, but... I don't really know what the big deal is anyway, so I don't think I'd do a very good job of convincing anybody.

[He smiles and looks back to his leg and tightens a screw.]

Astrid. She's... a friend of mine from home. Just got here a couple weeks ago.

Ooh! A friend from home, huh? You're lucky! Is she cute? ♪

[Hiccup blushes and ducks his head, concentrating VERY HARD on his leg all of a sudden and mumbling something along the lines of "yes" but it might be a little hard to make out.]
