[Hiccup wakes up in bed with a start, as if from a nightmare.

Well, it was a nightmare. But it was a real nightmare.

He remembers everything.

Even dying.

Especially dying.

But here he is, waking up as if it was a normal day in Mayfield.

He practically catapults out of bed, tearing around the house.]

Klaus?

KLAUS?

[He's panicking. Suddenly he stops, in the middle of the kitchen, remembering something. He bolts out the door and down the street, pausing at the door only long enough to put boots and a coat on.

Down the street he runs, shouting as loudly as possible.]

TOOTHLESS?

TOOTHLESS.

TOOTHLESS!

[He'll be running around town searching for his best friend. The search will, sadly, be in vain.]

A quarter of the town has vanished, murderous statues are coming out of the woodwork, and you're running about screaming your head off. Stop.

[He takes a deep breath and stands up, glancing nervously around him.]

[A name is all she needs to track someone down. Susan frowns at nothing in particular for a second or two before shaking her head.]

It's not the same as that time . . . But no. The Baron isn't in town.

[Hiccup blinks at her. For once, the confusion and mild awe brings him out of the abject terror that's been pretty much a constant since this whole fiasco began.]

Wait... how... how do you know?

((No, he's left, gone from the town entirely. I'd say droned but I don't think it works quite the same for an animal of Toothless' size and... strangeness.))

[Susan smiles faintly and meets his astonishment with a cool gaze of her own.]

Schoolteachers know everything. The other one, Toothless -- your dragon, wasn't it?

[Look at that, Susan, his mood has lifted enough for him to roll his eyes at that. Not for long, though, the reminder of Toothless gets him serious again.]

[He lets out a sigh, dejected now. No Klaus, no Toothless, and angels everywhere. Things were really looking bright.]

There's Lucrezia, but I don't think she'd look after anybody unless she was getting something out of it.
