003 - Tinkering - Action at 729 Anderson Lane

[It's a nice day, and Hiccup's in the garage with the door open. He's working on a pretty strange looking device, which turns out to be the tail replacement harness for Toothless. It's got two fins instead of just the one he had to make back home, so it's turning out to be a mite trickier than he's used to.

But he's doing pretty well. He might actually be finished with the thing soon. Or, you know. Finished enough for preliminary testing.

Any and all walk-ups are welcome. Hiccup will be so excited to tell everyone what he's doing.]

I, for one, try and make a habit of collecting every parsnip I see. I think, with all of them I get, my friends and Dad are that much closer, and this town won't ever really win whatever it's trying to win because of it.

Oh yes, extremely so. But I think the important things aren't worth searching for if they don't take a while.

[He glances down at it, almost surprised. He had practically forgotten about it over the course of their conversation.]

Oh. Oh yeah, I think so. Almost ready to test, anyway.

You must be tremendously excited.

Though I hope you have some sort of netting underneath you. It's not too uncommon for people to plummet sadly to their deaths when trying to ride a dragon.

Oh yeah, really excited! If it works, it'll be great to get back up in the air again.

[His face falls a bit at her second comment.]

Oh. Well we've done that a few times already. The good thing is that if this doesn't work, we won't be getting very high in the air anyway, so we won't have that far to fall.

Maybe there is even a way to travel outside of the town, should you go high enough.

That's lovely, then. Shorter falls usually result in less catastrophic and painful injuries.

Though I wonder if anyone would know if you were successful. It's very curious how the borders of this town work.

Oh, it's quite a simple charm really. I'm most certain anyone could do it, provided the town returns their abilities and wand.

Not everyone. But they live in a separate world, so to speak. I find it quite interesting to think about what would happen if we were to coexist- rather like Mayfield aside from all of the droning.

I imagine it's to make things easier on both sides. There's much about magic that muggles aren't ready to understand, and there's quite a few things about them that would be strange and confusing.

Though I don't mind strange and confusing. There are so many delightful muggle things I've discovered during my stay here. Like microwaves.
