[After encountering the angels that morning, Hiccup had been feeling strangely all day.

His eyes hurt. They stung. There was something in them and he couldn't get it out. All day at school he was rubbing his eyes, and then... on his way home... he could swear he was hearing things. People.

Then when he got home, he put his hand on the doorknob and couldn't take it away. He stared at it.

His hand was stone.

It was stone.

Shutting his eyes tightly he shook his head. No, he told himself. That's stupid. My hand's fine. It's okay. Just open the door.

When he opened his eyes again, his hands were fine.]

[PHONE:] So uh... weird statues, right?

Um.

Is anyone else... seeing things?



[ACTION, 729 Anderson Lane:] [Hiccup is sitting on the couch, rubbing his eyes.

He can't stop rubbing his eyes.

It hurts. It hurts so much.]

It's simply logic! When one dies, one returns fully healed. There is no point in keeping you alive to suffer if killing you would fix things more quickly!

And what is with the counting. He'd been putting it down to Hiccup rambling, but now that they're down to one, it's kind of... really scaring him.

And yet, he still can't just reach down and snap Hiccup's neck like he was planning to do. Hiccup is under his care. Hiccup is his responsibility. He can't just kill him, even if he knows it won't last.

That thought is almost as scary as what's happening on his table right now. I mean, he's a man that most people back home think would tear his own biological son to bits and rebuild him should he not live up to expectations. Not being able to kill his fake son? What is happening to him?

So he'll just... watch.]
